OPPOSE A STATE INSURANCE EXCHANGE!

A state insurance exchange will do nothing but facilitate the federal government’s takeover of the health care system. The health insurance exchange, like the Medicaid expansion, is nothing more than a multi-billion dollar boondoggle the cost for which will be borne by future generations.

Currently 25 states have indicated that they will not implement a state exchange. States are opposed because they understand that Obamacare depends entirely on states to implement it. States are opposed because they know that a state exchange affords almost no flexibility and makes states co-owners of the looming disaster in medicine: higher insurance premiums, more expensive medical care, reduced accessibility and worse patient outcomes. Gov. Otter’s decision makes the national effort of resistance much more difficult and more likely the law will remain in place, at great cost to Idaho families, businesses and our nation’s economic vitality. Idaho Freedom Foundation will do everything it can, along with other opponents of Obamacare, to make sure that Idaho legislators are fully educated on the dangerous consequences of implementing this destructive law.

Type of Exchange: States have flexibility in determining the role of the exchange with respect to contracting with health plans. All exchanges are required to contract only with health plans the meet minimum federal requirements for qualified health plans. States can choose to have the exchange contract with all qualified health plans (clearinghouse) or states can choose to have the exchange contract with selected health plans and/or negotiate premium prices with health plans (active purchaser).

I love the name Idaho Freedom Foundation. It engenders within me a sense that there is someone out there trying to protect the freedoms that I enjoy. I try not to take for granted that fact that these freedoms have come to me and mine as a result of many great sacrifices. Sacrifices made by principled forebearers who had the foresight to see what the future would bring, not necessarily to benefit themselves, but to benefit future generations. Having said all that, I find it ironic that the Idaho Freedom Foundation is opposed to Idaho establishing its own state based health insurance exchange. I feel as though you are masquerading as a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Your opposition to this crucial matter is akin to waiving the white flag of surrender. You argue that the costs of establishing our own state based exchange is too costly and that economic principles indicate that a Federal exchange will do more to increase benefits and will result in lower health care premiums for Idahoans. PPACA compliant health care plans, whether or not they have been purchased through an exchange, have indeed increased benefits for Idahoans and for that matter, all Americans. But one thing PPACA compliant health plans have not done is lower overall premium costs for Idahoans. If we rollover and let a Federal exchange be instituted in Idaho we are allowing the final nail to be placed in the coffin that represents our last hope from being buried alive by the Federal Government. History has shown that the price for freedom includes much more than just money. Freedom comes as a result of doing the right thing no matter what the cost. Establishing an Idaho based exchange is the right thing to do.
